The 3rd annual ASCENSION JIU-JITSU OPEN tournament on Saturday, February 9th (Juniors & Adults) and Sunday, February 10th (Children & Youth), 2008. The event will be held at Pope John Paul II Catholic High School (685 Military Trail) in Scarborough, Ontario. We held our two previous events (2006/2007) at this location and have been proud to deliver a unique vibe that differentiates our competition from the other great events in the GTA. You can expect to hear music in the background, hot food in the cafeteria and a sincere effort to instill and maintain a high standard of safety and sportsmanship at each and every ASCENSION JIU-JITSU event. Ascension is keen on promoting the sport of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to our younger generation-- our competitiors aged 7 to 15 years. In order to provide the children & youth competitiors with the time and attention their growing numbers deserve, we will be running their divisions separately on Sunday, February 10th. This move will also allow to ensure a prompt start time for our adult divisions on Saturday, February 9th. MATSIDE WEIGH-INS for the Junior & Adult Divisions (Saturday). After registering at the front desk, all Junior & Adult competitors wil receive a FIGHTER REGISTRATION CARD that they will present to officials when their division is called. The divisions will commence following the weigh-in on the MATS. Our endeavour is to promote the sport of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu; as such, all competitors that choose to compete in the Gi Divisions will find the following belt levels that correspond to years of experience: WHITE BELT / under 1.5 years experience BLUE BELT / 1.5 years experience to 3 years experience PURPLE-BROWN-BLACK BELT / over 3 years experience These experience levels are guidelines for practitioners that do not hold a formal rank in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. We will be using the same criteria for years of experience in the No-Gi Divisions.
